Drawing Challenge Title.jpg

This week I have made you an art challenge. There are 30 ideas to get you drawing - one for every day in June (and one bonus for whatever YOU want to draw!) I will continue to put up other new art ideas each week in June.

The idea is to choose a different idea every day. Be as creative as you like with your ideas. The idea might say "a vegetable". You could choose a vegetable from the kitchen and spend time sketching it, or you could draw a broccoli with a face, singing and dancing - it's up to you!

Click lHEREl to find the challenge and get drawing!!

Here's a sneak peek

For our art lesson this week, we are going to learn about a very famous French artist called Henri Matisse. Matisse was born on the very last day of 1869. He was a great painter and sculptor but when he was older, he needed to use a wheelchair, so he used a new type of art called collage.

We did some collage in school this year. Do you remember the birds we made? We printed, then we cut and stuck the paper. Cutting and sticking paper to make art is called collage.

Here is a short video to introduce Matisse properly. At the end of the video, there are some instructions for this week's activity!

You could collage your name and some things you like. You all know that I like art, music, baking and animals!

You could research Matisse and try to copy one of his famous collages. This one is an escargot (can you remember this from French food?)

You could do a 2D shapes collage.

You could try an exploding picture collage. First draw some shapes and colour them in. The cut along the lines and make a collage by sticking them onto a new page.

Remember: art exists because it's fun to do and fun to look at. So have some fun with collage this week!

I have put some pictures of Matisse's collages at the end of the page to inspire you.

This week I thought you could get creative with some empty egg boxes. There are loads if things and creatures you could create. Here are a couple of videos to get you started. Don't worry about having all the materials in the videos. Use whatever you have at home!

If you have any eye stickers left from your pack, you could use them. And, as always there are lots of ideas in the pictures at the end of the page!

Since we are reading a book about a spider called Charlotte, I decided to show you a fun spider-web art activity this week. All you need is some paper, a pencil and any colours you like.

Another origami project for you this week. This video will show you how to make a corner bookmark, just like the monster one in your pack. Once you how to make it, you can use your imagination to turn the bookmark into all sorts of creatures. There are some pictures at the end of the page to give you ideas.

You can use any size of square paper that you like.

If you look at last week's video below and use A4 paper to make a square, fold that square in quarters and cut along the folds. This will make a nice size square for a bookmark.

This week's activity is construction: making an origami box. Origami is an ancient Japanese technique of folding paper to create items. We practised origami in school and now I have made a video tutorial for you to follow along with at home. Have fun!

If you have rectangular paper and need to make a square, here is a quick video showing how to do that!

20/04/20: Paper Dolls

Here are some fun videos about making paper dolls. Use the videos to get ideas. Decide what parts you like and what you have your own ideas for. Or use some ideas from each video to create your own unique paper doll.

30/03/20 Toilet Roll Houses

Here is a fun art activity. Use the video to give you ideas but get creative with whatever materials you have at home! I put photos of more toilet paper roll houses at the bottom of the page to inspire you. smile
