WORK FOR STUDENTS OF MS. O’ROURKE AND MS. LINDON

Hi Children, Parent(s) / Guardian(s),

‘Hoping all’s well with you. ☺ I’m sure you have been doing your best with the school work which has been set for you, and you must be praised for that, because it is not easy to stay motivated when you are not in class where your friends and teachers can encourage you. Here are some jokes as a little treat to give you a laugh. Warning – only Some are funny!! https://www.ducksters.com/jokes/

If you scroll down you will find your classes’ activities for the next week and a half, ie. 4/6 up to 14/6 .
I have tried to put a good choice/ range for you, so you do not have to bother with anything that’s too taxing. You can instead practise everything else a few times, or, revisit other sites/ activities which you were already introduced to over the last number of weeks.

Hope this helps,
Take care and stay happy,
Miss O’Rourke.

Use the following vocabulary: more, less, same, equal, holds more, holds less, full, empty, almost full, almost empty, half full, half empty, capacity. Find a unit measure, like a cup and see how many cups are in larger containers such as jugs, bottles, buckets etc. Before you begin, you could estimate (guess) what the results will be. This (entire capacity) activity needs to be done under the supervision of an adult for safety reasons.

1st & 2nd Reading Group

• Books : https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Start at level 4 (age 6-7) and work towards level 5.

Tasks
1. Remember to keep track of what you read in your Reading Record Book.

2. Read daily, including weekends if possible.

3. Read aloud and use your voice to good effect. Don’t go too fast!

4. Have somebody listen to you and ask you questions to see if you understand the words and the ideas of the book.

5. Prefixes and Suffixes: Look at the videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB-meWtYNs0 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPqxNqO8u-A . Then open these documents and say the answers http://www.2ndgradeworksheets.net/prefixesworksheets.htm

6. Look out for prefixes and suffixes in the books that you read/ listen to. Make a long list of both in your copy.

7. This is a wonderful website https://www.storylineonline.net/ Pay attention to how the readers are using their voices. They are “getting involved” in the story, it is almost like acting! It is important to have a good reading voice. Give this a go yourself!

8. Fry phrases: https://www.d57.org/Downloads/frys_sight_word_phrases.pdf Practise page 2 only this week (second 100 words).
