• Make flash cards to revise all 42 sounds by clicking on this link and printing out cards jolly phonic flash cards - colour.pdf. You child has covered all of the 42 sounds, they just need intense revision everyday with a focus on 2 sounds per week.

Daily lesson

1. Sound of the Day

• Revise all 42 sounds using flashcards. Point at the letter/sound. Get your child to say the sound and then the name of the letter/letters.
• Have your child watch the following video that revises all the sounds along with the matching songs. They really enjoy doing this activity in school https://youtu.be/U2HYM9VXz9k
• Say words beginning with the sound (of the day).
• Practice writing the letter (of the day) on whiteboards.
• Teach/practice sound of the day using activities from the websites below:

2. Tricky Words

• List 6: love, cover, after, every, mother, father, once, upon, always, also, of, eight.

• Introduce 2 words per day.
• Speak the word, listen, identify sounds and write the word.
• For each word ask what is the first/last sound.

Blending is a phonics skill: look at the letters, say the sounds and hear the words. There are examples of how to blend on the Jolly Phonics link below. You can use it to help your child practice blending.

• Emphasis on the first letter, first sound needs to be louder than the others.
• Parent writes word on the board. Children say the sounds and listen for/say the word.
• Encourage your child to blend the sounds together. Don't let them guess the word, ensure they sound it out!
