well done Talha as you are ready now to move onto Level Orange!
Just a gentle reminder as to how to access these books please follow these instructions:
Please take some time to listen to your child reading and to discuss the book, it really is so important! Enjoy reading them! Please read the following books:
Chaima : Pink Band B (The Boy who Cried Wolf, The Pond, The Robot)
Talha: Orange (A Day in India, A letter to New Zealand, Arthurs Fantastic Party)
Leo: Yellow (The Hare and the Tortoise, The Little Egg, The New Kite)
Zara: Red B (River Journey, Super Ben, Tec and the Litter)
- Read the book on your own ( At least twice as they are very short!)
-
- Listen to the book being read out loud (Press Play)
-
- Click on the green circle for any unknown words
-
- Click on the red circle to answer some questions based on the story & recognising key words
There are lots of reading activities that can be done at home and only take a few minutes.
- Rhyme words as much as possible, pick 3 words from each book and write 5 rhyming words from each.
- Some ideas are, saying a word and having your child tell you the first, middle, or ending sound. You can say the word and ask them to say all the sounds. Say the sounds and have your child tell you the word. The idea is to get your child to begin to hear that words have separate sounds. This is the first step in being able to sound out words in text.
- Sight word/letter ‘Noughts n My pile, your pile (the children will be familiar with this game!)
- Bingo
- 5 minutes to write as many words as you can think of, try to write a new set of words each week. You could focus on one theme, for example family or food etc.
- Word searches http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/WordSearchSetupForm.asp
