Hello everyone!
We hope that you are enjoying the lovely sunshine in a safe way. This week is a special week because it is Active Schools Week! We have set a P.E. challenge and a Maths number exercise challenge for each day this week. Have a look at some of the extra fun challenges in the grid below and try some out with your families. We don’t want to put pressure on anyone but listed below are some ideas on what to do with the kids this week.

Today’s revision is the letter ‘l’, here are some activities:
- Think of sounds beginning with the letter ‘l’ – log, lid, lamp, etc.
- Look around your house and see if you can spot something beginning with the ‘l’ sound.

The Hungry Caterpillar Story - Read Along
● Activity: Children can draw a picture of their favourite part in the story.
● Mute the story and read it yourself with your child, this time leaving spaces for children to join in with the repeated phrases. Reading the story again and again helps children to read more of the story themselves and builds their confidence in books and reading.

Irish:
● Bua na Cainte is the interactive programme we use to teach Gaeilge in the classroom.
● During the school closures, Edco has offered free access to Bua na Cainte for parents, however, you will need a computer or laptop to install the software.
● To access this excellent resource, do the following:
● Go to http://www.edco.ie/bua
- Click on the folder that matches the device you are installing it onto – mac or PC.
- Choose Junior Infants and click on the setup icon to install it on your device. It takes about 15 minutes to install.
- Once it is installed, you can open up the programme and enter the login details
- Password: trial, Username: trial
● The children are very familiar with the characters and the layout so they should be able to navigate through it to find stories, lessons, games and songs.

● Practice counting forwards and back-wards up to 10. Try starting at different numbers e.g. Let’s start at 3 and count up to 8!
● Simon Says is a great and fun way to practice number work. Give instructions: 5 jumping Jacks, clap your hands 3 times, hop on one foot 4 times.
● Whats the missing number? Count from 1 to 5 but leave out one number- 1, 2, 4, 5, child has to guess which one is missing
● Count and throw (you'll need a ball/ a teddy and at least one other person for this game)
- Person with the ball/ teddy starts by saying number 1 and throws the ball/teddy to the next person
- Next person says number 2 and throws the ball/ teddy to the next person who says 3, etc
- Practice counting backwards for this game too- start at 10 and go down.
