This weeks theme is:

The Jungle!

Monday:

Play:

  • Online Puzzle - Giraffe

http://www.first-school.ws/puzzlesonline/animals/giraffe.htm

Sound:

Today’s revision is the sound ‘ar’, here are some activities:

    • Think of words with the sound 'ar’ - bar, jar, car
    • Look around your house and see if you can spot something which contains the ‘ar’ sound.
    • Using the link watch a short song on the ar sound
  • Draw some pictures of objects that have the ‘ar’ sound.
  • Say each letter sound and then push all the sounds together: car, sharp

Tricky word:

  • Our tricky word this week is ‘said’
  • Think of some sentences using the word ‘they’ for example: She said that you are great.

Story:

Rumble in the Jungle

Reading activity:

  • Have a look at the front cover of the book.
  • The name of a story is also called the title of a story - ask your child what is the title of this story?
  • A person who writes a story is called the author…can you find the author of this book from looking at the cover
  • Try playing a game of ‘I spy’ using the front cover. For e.g. ‘I spy with my eye something beginning with the sound ‘g’’ - giraffe etc.

Bunny Ears!

bunny ears.png

  • This is a short activity that is great to do each day.
  • Ask your child to get ready for ‘bunny ears’. (make a fist with one hand and place it on their head).
  • You call out a number from 1-5 and ask them to show you that number of fingers. The trick is that (if they are able) they cannot look at their hand to do it!
  • Once they have their answer, ask them to look at their hand and ask them to count and check if they were correct.
  • For some of the children who are particularly good at maths and find this easy, you can ask them if they can think of another way to show you the number. So, for example for the number 4, they will firstly show you 4 fingers on one hand. When you ask them to show you another way they might use 2 hands and raise 2 fingers on each. When you ask again they might raise 1 finger on one hand and 3 fingers on another.
  • This is a great short activity to do regularly.
